1. Acceptance of terms
By creating an account or using the Jottam service ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Description of the service
Jottam is a secure, end-to-end encrypted digital vault service that allows you to store files and notes ("jots"), organise them into vaults, and configure access for designated beneficiaries upon trigger events such as inactivity or a fixed date.
3. Account registration
- You must sign in using an OAuth provider (Google or Facebook). You are responsible for the security of that account.
- You must set a master password during onboarding. This password is not recoverable by us. Losing it means losing access to your encrypted content.
- You must download and securely store your Emergency Kit. It is required to recover access from a new device.
- You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to store illegal content.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or compromise the encryption of other users' data.
- Abuse the Service in a way that could damage, disable, or impair it (e.g. automated scraping or denial-of-service attacks).
- Misrepresent your identity or impersonate another person.
5. Your data and encryption
All content you store is encrypted on your device before upload. We cannot access, view, or recover the content of your vaults. You are solely responsible for:
- Keeping your master password confidential.
- Storing your Emergency Kit in a safe location.
- The accuracy and legality of the content you store and share with beneficiaries.
6. Account deletion and data removal
You may delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account. Deleting your account permanently and immediately removes all of your data from our systems, including all vaults, jots, files, beneficiary records, and encryption keys. This action cannot be undone. We do not retain any backup copies of deleted user data.
7. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from loss of data. You are responsible for maintaining your own backups of important information outside of Jottam.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Jottam shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of access to encrypted content, or failure of trigger notifications.
9. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. Upon termination, all associated data will be deleted in accordance with Section 6.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after updates are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. Material changes will be communicated via email or an in-app notice.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Jottam operates, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions.
